REASONS AND NEEDS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ECO SPORTS GROUP

Eco Sports Group was founded in response to the needs of disabled persons in B&H – primarily mine victims but other disabled persons as well – for new and innovative methods of rehabilitation and re-socialization. The following is the actual list of necessary processes which are essential after becoming a disabled person:

• Immediate medical attention
• Continuous medical care
• Physical rehabilitation, prosthetics, aids
• Psychological and social support
• Employment and economic integration
• Qualification, training and sustainability
• Legislation and public awareness about the issue
• Access to public services
• Collecting of data

* All of the above mentioned processes, except immediate medical attention, are long-term in nature and have to be maintained throughout the disabled person's life. Not only should they be maintained, but also improved and enriched so that they can better serve their purpose
To our great regret we cannot but say that most of the above mentioned processes are not well organized in our country! Recent war in Bosnia and Herzegovina has resulted in great number of disabled persons, civilian as well as military personnel. Medical care and the government in general have not found adequate ways to integrate these people into the new society. Thus we are left with enormous disproportion between the elevated needs and deflated capacities for aid.
Although it answered the need for immediate medical attention, medicine has not been able to address none of the other needs which fall into its domain. It has completely failed in physical rehabilitation, psychological advising and social support. Apart from that it has shown utter inertness and lack of flexibility as well as lack of interest in adapting to the newly developed situation.
Government bodies have failed completely. They have not answered in any way to any of the needs of this social group which today accounts for significant percentage within the society. Atmosphere for employment of disabled persons and their involvement in the economic flows is horrible. Legislation and laws seem to be almost purposefully arranged so that they make our lives miserable and government offices seem to be purposely making it harder for us to have access to public services and public life.
This is a short summary of the situation which led to the need for offering disabled persons something else, something better...

This gap has been successfully filled by Eco Sports Group!!!

Through new and innovative approach which focuses on water sports, which are even considered extreme to some degree , we have given disabled persons first of all a feeling that they are worthy and that they can do what others cannot, but we have also given them the means to apply this newfound confidence in their real life situations, families and every day activities. Unlike many others, we have taken disabled persons into the open world of nature; we have shown them that they should not be embarrassed by their handicap; we have given them an opportunity to engage in sports otherwise unattainable due to their own modest budgets; we have helped them in setting up their own small businesses; in short we have made it possible for them to go on with their lives again.
Today, at our diving and rafting camps, you can hear laughter and songs; you can hear children yelling and playing; you can hear all the sounds of bunch of friends having great time. What you will NEVER hear in our company is crying, sobbing or complaining!!! It is uncustomary for us
