About us

Eco Sports Group is a non governmental organization founded by persons with disabilities and is oriented towards improving the life quality of disabled persons and the society in general. Throughout the 8 years of our existence we have worked with various social groups, and have covered over 3000 persons through project activities such as: rehabilitation, social integration and education of disabled persons through water sports; socio-economic strengthening of disabled persons; lectures on natural preservation and mine risks for the youngest populations; training and specialization of special police units for underwater activities; etc...

Our main concern is nevertheless with the marginalized groups of society. We are acutely aware of the needs of these groups because we have experienced first hand what they go through in their everyday lives. Most of our efforts are turned towards the people with various physical and/or mental handicaps regardless of age, sex or nationality. Aims and objectives of our projects invariably include improvement of living standards for those who need it the most, and the approach which we apply to achieve our objectives is always innovative and efficient. Eco Sports Group is the first organization in the world which applied water sports such as scuba diving and rafting in rehabilitation of disabled persons on such a large scale. We always try to integrate into our projects numerous aspects and elements which could benefit our society multifold.

Thanks to the generous donations and support from our benefactors which include US government, government of the Czech Republic, International Trust Fund Slovenia, Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports B&H, Adopt Minefield, World Bank, etc. we have educated our staff in various fields and today we re able to autonomously execute not only practical but also theoretical and educative activities in fields such as diving, mine risk education, search and rescue, environmental awareness, etc. We are also authorized to issue internationally acknowledged certificates in sports and recreational scuba diving, piloting floating vessels and first aid administration. This is the result, and the best indicator of success, of our organization's work in the field of aiding disabled persons.

Up to this date we have successfully executed 9 projects which were oriented towards persons with various types of disabilities. 6 of these projects were on psycho-physical rehabilitation and social integration of mine victims through water sports. Through these projects participants were trained for the following internationally acknowledged certificates:

  • 118 persons with disabilities gained basic diving certificate (CMAS P1*)
  • 36 persons with disabilities gained advanced diving certificates (CMAS P2**)
  • 25 persons with disabilities gained independent diver certificates (CMAS P3***)
  • 5 persons with disabilities gained diving instructor certificates (CMAS M1*)
  • 4 persons with disabilities gained NITROX diver certificates (SSI)
  • 4 persons with disabilities gained MIX BLENDER certificates (PADI)
  • 2 disabled persons gained DiveMaster Advanced-Profesional certificates (TDI-SDI)

Apart from this, through our projects over 60 persons with disabilities gained certificates in various fields such as vessel piloting, DAN first aid, mine risk instructors and managers – our organization helped in creation and approval of over 60 small business plans for disabled persons – we carried out projects with children with mental handicaps, hearing and speaking disabilities, and visual impairment – we held lectures on environmental preservation and mine risks for over 3000 children in schools.

Having in mind all of the above, we feel that it is justified to say that we have accomplished a lot and that we have developed into a serious and dependable organization. Being disabled persons ourselves we can identify the needs which press these social groups and are able to treat these needs accordingly. We have always had a clear goal in our mind, to improve the life for other disabled persons as we did for ourselves, and we feel that we are rising to the occasion. Nevertheless, we cannot do everything on our own, thankfully there are always people who are aware of the needs of the social groups we treat and who can identify the true quality when they see it. Thanks to them today we are recognized across the world by some of the worlds' largest organizations and associations for not only rehabilitation of disabled persons but also diving communities as well. We have made invaluable connections internationally, as one of the founders of IAHD Adriatic, as member of CMAS world diving federation, and as a leader in innovative approach to disabled persons rehabilitation.
